This weekly newsletter is mostly about the article, books, videos etc. I read or watch or my views on different topics which revolves around my head during the week. Now, let us dive in to this weeks reads.
1. Digital Nomad
We talked about the digital nomads in one of your previous posts. At that time, it was countries which were giving visa to attract international tourist to come legally in and work. Now the trend is moving within the country as well to people who are already working legally or citizens of country as well. Few cities in US are giving 10,000 USD or moving expenses to attract remote work people to come to their location.

My earlier post to refer to,
I just wish this becomes more and more of trend. The jobs which can be done from anywhere in the world, should allowed by every means, this will allow lot of employment to get generated.
2. Qualities defining Leadership
A true leader is not someone who is a hero, he is someone who can inspire others to achieve a common goal together. When we talk about inspiration, it is not just a town hall meeting where a CEO will talk for an hour and have a 5-minute Q&A at end and says these are our objectives, these our short term and long-term goals and you meet them in next quarter. Even the message is spread, it launches in the core circle of people only and it never reaches every employee of an organization as an example. To really bring a change, a leader communication is not just that one session or repetitive weekly reminder of it, the message must get into their people heads, their breath, their day-to-day life, one should get resonated with it in so detailed, like you can compare to how during freedom fight, a fighter only thinks about freedom and what it means to himself and to his next generation of lives. When such a powerful message is shared and everyone in a team, department, organization, states, country breathes the same vision as a leader, then one will be true leader.
For me, leader should be thoughtful, humble, can show empathy to every aspect of life. Take an example of politics, there are points raised by left side party and right-side party, we do not need one more person who will blame each other. We would need one, who is thoughtful, hearing both parties and conclude what is best interest of people, not about whose points one is leaned to. In any conflict, a leader is the one who can view both sides and decide with honesty and lead others a path.

I am sharing one of my earlier writing, written around year 2008. At that time, I was having 1 year of work experience and those were my expectations for leader or the leader I wanted to become in early stage of career. Click below.
3. Personality traits of a genius person
Childlike imagination, Curiosity
Concentration
Passion
Obsession
work ethic
Originality
Resilient in every aspect, ability to fail and fail and come back to prep again to try it out
Ethics
This bit is just for me to remind myself. So not describing fully, will talk in future podcasts.
4. For Working Couple, What Love will do to their life
It is not easy for 2 working couple to have easier conversations. When one can get exciting opportunity to move to different city, state, or country. We have seen couples in our life of 2 types, one who take most of their hard conversations very bitterly and there will be some on other side, for whom these conversations are satisfactory to both individuals. Difference is, two people having such conversations can come out by choosing what they want, another couple decides based on how they choose those together. Below TED video summed it up very well on this topic. It is short but makes the point so well.
My summary is, Couple should communicate more often about their thoughts rather baking them in their heads, be honest with each other, consider each other’s work of same equal irrespective what each brings to the table (type of job, income etc.), consider each career goals equally, settle some common ground points to follow for.
5. Managing an Underperformer at work, who thinks they are doing great
Every one of us will face such resource in our team occasionally. One end you are trying to build an A-team and you see few in the team are lagging the same zeal as others and lag in their deliverables which impact overall team delivery. Either they know themselves or not, they seem to project as completely unaware of such issues.
First step is to talk to them directly and share the issue in humble way, so they get it. To do that, what is expected out of them should be clearly mentioned to them again to be on same page. No need to call out, just give a feedback on the actual deliverables, so they start seeing the issue and work with rest of team to improve.
Do give them all required resources to perform well. Do not assume, that with one meeting they will come back. Be in regular touch and make sure they have required support and have a plan for their improvement.
Have a continuous feedback on the deliverables. Be fair in the process. See you must believe in the process first, before asking the next person to work with you. Do not give up early just because someone is not meeting the expectations. This is two-way process to give a constructive feedback.

The pretty big problem according to me is, Tasks are not well shared in organization, manager and resource needs to be on same page what is expected, especially true for higher positions. They are managers who will be quiet all year and come back at end of year performance review with negative feedback which does not help either an employee or employer. Next issue is, Know it all gurus in the industry. yes, every one of us have seen them. They hardly know about the job or say a subject, just a mere Udemy course or few basic chapter headlines are making these gurus to come out and projecting as know it all. Know it all culture is always bad, every one of us to be subject matter expert, should be in growth aka learning mindset always. There is room for everyone one of us for improvement irrespective how proficient we are, that is what makes us human.
That is all for this week. See you again.
