Gen-Z is going to change Investing forever, Say Thank You more to others and to yourself, more lockdown news, and cases surge, what are you doing this winter to keep you busy at home? India will cross china population by 2026, so as a Country are we ready?, My most important values Trust and Honesty, Family is universal top for every human, peak into a study how values differ by geographical locations. This week newsletter is all about these topics. So, let us dive in.
1. Zillennials - Gen Z
Gen-Z, A group of people born between 1996 to 2016 are now making their way into workforce. Bank of America did a research that Gen Z, Aka Zillennials are going take over Millennial in Income category.
Even without reading the research doc, we already know this generation born and brought up in Technology era have a very strong opinion on Tech they use or the food they follow.
Tech - This generation has adapted to Tech to anyone else. Rest of the generations must catch up in this space for sure, how much online shopping and payment gateways are being used, which are mostly unknown to oldest millennial itself. The Apps like TikTok which came under security check in USA and other countries have Gen-Z as the greatest number of users in their system.
Income - Their Income is projected to be more than prior generations. We millennial’s have gone through 2008 financial crisis, which not just impacted that year, but also couple of more years after as well impacted pays for many. One thing is, they have welcomed Tech so much, which also comes with price. so, for sure will make not this generation itself, others as well, look for higher income jobs. Hustle on the way.
Food - Take an example of Beyond Meat, Impossible foods etc. companies stock price in last few years. Vegan as brand has existed since many years and the fight is getting more and more against harmful meat production and not just people looking for alternate food options for every meat or diary product, Companies are also doing strong marketing and their stock price shows this.
Gen-Z will disrupt many companies for sure, as this generation has access to any information on their phone and who they follow. We can also argue that Technology is making these disruptions then Generations. Click below,
9 Out of 10 in Gen-Z population is from developing countries. This will be interesting to see how they will impact Asian region, with China and India ever growing population and race in GDP to grow higher and higher. With developing countries holding this younger generation, next decade will be interesting to see how Job Markets, Immigration etc. will turn out around the world.
2. Thank You
This year, we have to say Thank You loudly to everyone around and every little aspect of life. In Last week post, we talked about showing greater gratitude in the same lines. These are most simple words; one can use every day and very often in their conversations. Not just saying it to others, say it to yourself as well. Every one of us will have some level of stress always in life, however long one has meditated in their life, there will be some level of Stress always be there. As it will help us to work towards our goal. Steve Jobs once said, if you are working on something exciting that you really care about, you do not have to be pushed. The vision pulls you.
With my 16-month-old at home, This Thanksgiving week I am reminding myself to say these two powerful words often from now onward, in my conversations and to myself.
Also, you my reader, my humble Thanks to You. On Substack, this is my 20th Post and shared some archives from prior blog site here and done 11 Podcasts so far. A big thank you to each of my reader.
3. Things to Do, More!
As the Schools returning to virtual learning, In Some states delaying in-person classes, Multiple states sharing travel restrictions as Thanksgiving long weekend ahead, U.S states are taking soft discussions on Lockdown, whereas European side data is out that lockdown restriction are helping and CDC confirming with data that masks have hugely helped to avoiding spread. Even with 2 companies coming up with 95% effective vaccine results, the Surge in cases is not seen going down and holiday season ahead is worried to see another big surge. With all this, we are seeing another 6 months to be at home. We have been through Spring, Summer, Fall and now into Winter, seeing that it is not going to end soon, the new normal for winter needs to be planned well for many. Summer allowed our list little easy, as we had access to outdoors for quick walks, runs, biking around neighborhood with masks on, but now the Cold winter in North east of U.S, Limits the outdoor access as cold climate is more risk of catching cold quick and mall walking’s are also out of picture due to current situation of COVID-19. So, we must do more things now, as we will be at home even more.
Every week when I post my Substack link, at least 1 person is reaching out and we are having great conversations. This given me a thought, to connect with at least 1 friend every week whom I have not connected since long. Yes, we are all there as connections in social platforms, connects once in a year over a call and talk for an hour about all year. You all have such friends. So, my shout out is, pick such friends, Start reaching out more often. Send a quick email to check one’s availability or a note over text. Writing email sounds old to some, ask someone around writing a letter to someone, they will share you how much connection it shares. Drop an email, Text, or Pick that phone and take some time every weekend to call someone with whom you are well connected in past and still thinks to be connected but have rarely spoken.
As we talk about conversations, at home or conversations done over phone, remember to listen more. Do know, Listening is acts of love. As you will listen more, the rich your conversations will be.
Find meaning in activities you do. As we will be more at home, either its work or home tasks, whatever it is, Find meaning specially in them. So, you will be more engaged in your activities and this new normal will just look normal.
Learn a craft. This year, already cooking, baking etc. habits are added to our routine. So, pick something which you wanted it very well, but always kept aside. Say you want to learn a new language which your partner speaks Or learn some painting. It can be anything, if you can master it, good for you, even not it is fine, it is important that you are learning something which you also having good time in it.
Look close to home, parking lot, driveway near to home. Take walks around nearby locations to home. Where you do not have to worry about social distancing. Yes, it will not be same as summer.
Let me know, what else you plan to do this winter as we will be at home more.
4. Population Race - China vs India
See below link, for 300 year look at China and India population and giving insights into future projections. We all know, and prior studies have projected that these 2 big nations are in chase to population, now this study projection is just by 2026, India will match China population and thereby it will grow bigger than china. The Study says that China 1 Child policy since 1979 to 2016 has slowed down its population growth. See the graphs in below link.
https://www.visualcapitalist.com/the-population-race-a-300-year-look-at-china-vs-india/
Every time, I read such study and more data comes forward, it is very much evident that India is coming closer and closer surpassing china’s population. The rising concern is India living space is much shorter than China. i.e., China has 192% more space than India. The more population we will have in India, the Real Estate is going to sky high. Every workable place is going to hit premium prices. As prices to hit high, it will not be luxury of few to have high pay jobs, it will become must for everyone to upgrade their skills to get high pay jobs. People do not move easily, as they grow older, it is not easy to learn new skills, these are facts. If we must emerge as superpower of this world, it is important for every individual to do their best. I remember few lines from Abdul Kalam book, you do not have to sacrifice your life for the nation to prove your worth to your motherland. Just do your job well, live happily with your nuclear family well. Doing this, will automatically make you a good citizen of the country, as your work, will help not just your growth, it will help people and jobs around you and country economy etc.
5. Our Values define us
Our values define us, we all do many things in our life, but in every aspect, we will be bound to our values. Family, Relationships, Personal Growth, Loyalty, Respect, Honesty, Equality are few among many of human values. Family is universal top priority for every human, but based on geographic location from where you live, your other priorities and values will be different. See the below link, which captures this info very well.
https://www.visualcapitalist.com/most-influential-values/
From the link, Top 10 Universal values which define us. My top values I mentioned above are surprisingly all not in Top 10 list. Therefore, I said, this study shows that based on geographical region it differs. Honesty is important to me but may be not that much important to someone else, as other priorities takes preferences over values.
Family
Relationships
Financial Security
Belonging
Community
Personal Growth
Loyalty
Religion/Spirituality
Employment Security
Personal Responsibility
That is all for this week. See you again.
